Updating Throughline

To update Throughline, download the latest build from your Throughline purchase on Gumroad and install it the same way you installed the first one. Your projects are not affected.

The one page to bookmark is getthroughline.com/access. It shows both ways to reach your download: through a Gumroad account, or through your receipt email if you bought without one.

How you hear about an update

The latest versions of Throughline check for a new version when they launch. If one is out, a dialog tells you what’s new and offers a Download button. When you’re offline, Throughline skips this check.

A regular release only tells you about the next regular release. A beta build also tells you about newer betas, so testers always hear about the next one.

Opening a project that was saved by a newer version of Throughline will also prompt you to Update Throughline. See Files from other versions of Throughline.

Download the new version

1. If you have a Gumroad Account, go to getthroughline.com/access and follow the link to your Gumroad library.
2. Log in and open Throughline.
3. Download the latest build for your platform: the .dmg for macOS, the setup .exe for Windows.

Never made a Gumroad account, don’t have your password handy, or Gumroad says it can’t find your account? Skip to If Gumroad can’t find your account.

Installing Updates

Quit Throughline first, then install the new build as you did the first time (see Installation):

• macOS: open the .dmg and drag Throughline into Applications. When macOS says an item with that name already exists, replace it.
• Windows: run the new setup .exe and follow the prompts.

What stays after Updates

In the latest versions of the Throughline App, your projects are .thrl files in folders you choose, separate from the app, so installing a new version doesn’t touch them. If a release updates the project file format, Throughline asks before changing a file and keeps the original in the autosaves folder. See Projects & Files.

You shouldn’t need to enter your license key again. If Throughline does ask for it, enter it as before; License Keys covers where to find it and what to do about an activation limit.

If Gumroad can’t find your account

You may not have a Gumroad account at all. Gumroad lets you buy without one, as a guest checkout with no password. Your purchase is still yours, with every update. You reach it through your receipt instead of a library.

1. Find your Gumroad receipt for Throughline in your email.
2. Open it and click View content. Gumroad may ask for the email address you bought with.
3. That opens Throughline’s download page, with the latest builds. Download the one for your platform and install it.

Your license key is in that receipt email too.

Getting a Gumroad library

If you’d rather log in next time, create a free Gumroad account at gumroad.com/signup with the exact email address you bought Throughline with. Gumroad links purchases made with that address to the new account, so Throughline shows up in your library from then on.

Can’t find the receipt

• Search your inbox for “Gumroad”, and check your spam folder.
• Use Gumroad’s license key lookup. Enter the email you bought with, and Gumroad sends your receipt, license key included, to that address again.
• Try any other email address you might have used at checkout.
• Still nothing? Email support@peak-state.com with the address you think you bought with.
